4 ways that the NEW IMRC Account Manager will streamline your projects

Have you ever shown up to use something at the IMRC only to discover it’s being used, already checked-out, or our favorite: you aren’t certified because of the latest training updates? It can really put a cramp in the timeline of your project. We’re thrilled that more and more people are learning how to use the equipment for exciting and innovative projects, and we want to ensure that increased demand won’t slow down the creative process. James LeVasseur and Nicolette Hashey are currently in the midst of creating an online account management system as their New Media capstone, which will be prototyped at the IMRC Center. What’s in it for you? Here are 4 ways that the new IMRC Account Manager will streamline your projects.

1. Reduced Wait-Time

Arguably the most exciting feature of the new system will be the ability to reserve equipment from the Fabrication Labs and Equipment Room online. Rather than having to venture to the IMRC to see if the equipment is being used or make a reservation in person, you’ll be able to plan around the time you’ve scheduled in advance, knowing the equipment will be waiting for you.

2. Money Matters

Another great feature is the ability to view your recent account activity and your current account balance. After you’ve finished using a piece of equipment you’ll submit your usage on your account and as soon as it’s approved by an administrator, the balance will be deducted from your account.

3. Certification Tracking

The account manager will also allow users to view their acquired certifications and contact a technician about additional trainings. These listings will adapt as phases grow, shrink, and change, so you’ll always know what you’re certified to use. In addition, supplemental materials for trainings, including safety manuals, etc. will be available on the certifications page so users can study-up prior to their training or get a refresh at a later date.

4. Quick Answers

An FAQ page will house the answers to important, but less-technical questions that the IMRC lab technicians and staff receive on a regular basis, such as hours of operation, etc.  No more long email chains just to answer simple questions!

The new IMRC account management system will be available for use by students, faculty, and community members and will launch later this semester. Stayed tuned for more information!
